Going Clubbing Sun Lakes Style
Got Atmosphere –Sun Lakes has so many clubs…and by clubs we mean country clubs, special interest clubs, club houses, and health clubs. Sun Lakes, Arizona is a master-planned Active Adult community; that offers five different country club communities, five club houses, health clubs, and hundreds of clubs based on interests such as photography, computers, and arts.
Where It’s At - Located between Arizona Avenue and Riggs Road, Sun Lakes is easily accessible to Interstate 10, and Loop 101 and 202 Freeways and is just minutes away from Sky Harbor International Airport, Downtown Phoenix and East Valley Cities. However, within the community there are five golf courses, grocery stores, banks, doctors, drug stores, gas stations, dentists, restaurants, a branch of the Maricopa Public Library and community college, sheriff’s posse station, and two fire stations; so there really isn’t a need to leave.
Featuring…The first neighborhood, Sun Lakes Phase 1, was built by E.J. Robson in 1972, becoming the first active adult community in the East Valley. Since then, the master planned community has added Oakwood, Ironwood, Palo Verde, and Cottonwood neighborhoods for a total of five country club subdivisions and three separate HOAs. Palo Verde, Ironwood and Oakwood are gated. Sun Lakes 1 and Cottonwood are not gated. Sun Lakes offers a wide variety of home styles and types. The community is built-out so no new construction. However, there is a good selection of re-sale homes on the market to choose from. According to residents, you get more bang for your buck than at other 55+ communities. And in Sun Lakes you don’t even have to be 55, minimum age is only 40.
Classic vibes – Sun Lakes laid the ground work for Southeast Valley development. Farm fields and dirt roads surrounded the community when it first opened. Now fields still border Sun Lakes to the south and west giving it a pastoral setting. But non age restricted residential neighborhoods are just down the street. Through the years, Sun Lakes has remained a popular well established resort style active adult community.
